About Julie J Maahs

Throughout almost a decade working in higher education, I have thrived in roles that use these key abilities: ► 𝗞𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: I have been certified as a Nationally Certified Resume Writer, spoken at national and state conferences, and won an award for the best-of-the-best in resume writing. While I am proud of my accomplishments in resume writing, I know that my true skill is my love for learning. I am endlessly driven to become a subject-matter expert, especially in the fields of career development, education, leadership, and training.► 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮: When I started as a Career Coach, my first challenge was to increase student engagement. I knew that data would be key, so I constructed a survey to learn about students’ interactions with our department. After interpreting the results, I worked with my colleagues to carry out key changes. Building relationships with campus partners and implementing professional development for staff spurred significant change. In fact, we TRIPLED the number of career coaching appointments from my first year to my fifth year. In my current role, I write assessments into each program I create, tracking progress on learning, satisfaction, usage, and other outcomes. I am energized by using the data we collect to improve our services each year!► 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀: A common thread through my favorite positions has been the opportunity to train others. As a career coach, I have taught adult learners through over 1,800 career coaching appointments and delivered hundreds of classroom presentations. As a supervisor managing up to 35 staff, I have led in-depth onboarding trainings, offered professional development sessions, and facilitated performance improvement planning. In my current role, I help faculty recognize the importance of incorporating career readiness at a curriculum level. Few things are as satisfying as seeing the lightbulb turn on or guiding someone to take their next step!
