I was the HR Manager for two of their locations in the Grand Rapids area and was responsible for all HR duties at these locations. Efficiency improvement methods learned, such as QS9000, 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and others, are still invaluable to me.

Dekker Bookbinding is a family-owned book bindery. I was responsible for all HR duties. As their first professional HR hire I successfully implemented many HR policies and programs and helped them win their first-ever safety award from the National Safety Council.

MedTrans was a division of Laidlaw and a parent company for ambulance services throughout the United States. The Midwest Region where I was HR Assistant and reported to the Regional HR Director consisted of over 2,000 union and non-union employees in over 13 locations throughout 8 states east of the Mississippi River. My responsibilities included assisting with HR Generalist duties at the regional level, providing HR counsel and support to the branch HR representatives, performing special assignments for the corporate office in San Diego, conducting due diligence and making HR recommendations on potential mergers and acquisitions, and administering regional work comp cases and the corporate flexible spending account program. My biggest project was being selected to be on the PeopleSoft design team for corporate-wide implementation (10k+ employees) of the software.

Holland, Mi

I worked at retail giant Target in the Holland, MI store as their Human Resources person. I reported to the Store Manager and was responsible for all HR duties at that location as well as supervision of a 7-person clerical staff. (During college I worked in the Jenison store as a cashier and guest services winning this promotion after my graduation.)
