I have a long history of translating ideas into visual design: I sold my first logo when I was 14 years old and absolutely fell in love with the entire design process. Over the years I have done everything from graphic design on programs, promotional materials, and other assorted visual assets for a regional choral society to applying and expanding the design system for describing a public software development company’s cloud-native data analytics platform.

We worked to drive business forward through smart use of data: to create new capabilities, identify critical insights, and solve tough problems.As an early employee, I brought my content development, graphic design, and conference experience to bear on the challenge of creating a company identity and spreading our ideas throughout our various communities. This included a host of activities such as developing and maintaining the website, designing visual assets, building out case studies, as well as writing my own whitepapers and conference proposals and supporting our engineers in writing theirs. As the company grew, my responsibilities expanded to hiring and managing a small team as well as working with outside vendors to continue these activities at scale.

I co-developed curriculum and taught a year-long course on Data Metrics and Visualization in the Design for Social Innovation program. The course helped second-year MFA students develop their understanding of data and learn how to represent it visually. My specialties included introducing students to basic programming concepts using Processing and Python, as well as emphasizing data ethics and how design choices can skew cognitive perception.
