I manage the statewide UC Diabetes Prevention Program and act as the administrator for UCSB and UCM's programs. I lead the development of new cohorts through recruitment, scheduling and eligibility screening. In this role I direct the development of a Massive Open Online course on stress and resilience. My goal is to make stress education accessible to all people as a public health education initiative. I am a fifth-generation farmer and grew up spending my summers on my family ranch. We steward 10,000 acres of arable fields, range, and Conservation Reserve Program land. As a child I learned how to love the land and view myself as one part of a much larger ecosystem; as an adult I collaborate on business decisions, analyze global grain markets, and have.

I act as a medical assistant at the South Gilliam Health Center in rural Eastern Oregon. I check patients in, take vital signs, conduct blood glucose tests, and run INRs and strep tests under guidance of resident PAs. I speak with patients to build a medical history and develop a SOAP profile. I’m using this opportunity to develop the skills of a primary.

As a research assistant I study the affects of psychosocial risk factors on morbidity, as well as the impact of medical mistrust on COVID-19 guideline adherence. I have screened 5,562 studies, developed proficiency in Covidence, and have contributed to the writing and publication of a journal article. I find meaning in this work because the study explores.

My work with the Westwood Food Cooperative aimed to create an inclusive space to build community, and change our food system to be more ethical, nourishing, and sustainable. In this role I forged a connection to local farms, such as the John Givens Organic Farm, and packed weekly CSA boxes full of their fresh produce. I acted as a bridge between my peers.

As Mentorship Chair I designed educational presentations and activities for Title I high schoolers interested in healthcare. I have presented on topics such as the college application (Common App) process and extracurriculars suited for a career in medicine. I conducted one-on-one mentorship which often included reading, editing, and motivating these high.

CampMed hosts an annual weekend camp for local underserved high-school students to explore their interest in medicine. I worked as a counselor to create relationships with a small group of campers where I encouraged their engagement with medical activities, speakers and panelists, and person-building. After camp ends, I continued to provide campers with.
