TESOL International Association’s (TESOL) operations team focuses on engaging the profession, building value for members and affiliates, and providing a positive customer experience. This team combines membership, marketing, communications, affiliate relations, advocacy, analytics, and technology to improve the customer experience, build a vibrant community, and engage English Language educators worldwide.Accomplishments: Led a 3-year $2,000,000 technology overhaul to include 6 implementations,establishing a future-state roadmap, and procedures and change management. Scheduled to end in March 2024 on time and $400,000 under budget.

TESOL International Association’s (TESOL) membership and marketing department brings together membership administration, affiliate relations, member recruitment and engagement, marketing, analytics, and technology to focus on growing our reach, improving the customer experience, building community, and engaging our members. By bringing these functions together in one department we are able to speak in one voice across a variety of channels in support of the convention services, publications and profession learning departments, and on behalf of the profession.

Responsible for the strategic direction and operations of a dynamic membership team using business principles, member analytics and industry research.

Oversaw all aspects of a 7-person department and various vendors focused on member retention and engagement, affiliate relations. financial management and projections, data analytics and reporting, and election management.

Lead a 4-person membership and marketing team charged with all aspects of member recruitment and retention and event and product marketing. In this capacity developed and implemented an annual strategy and budget for membership recruitment, intake and orientation, retention communications, customer service and exit surveying to achieve annual goals for both membership and event attendance.

Directed all aspects of a 4-person membership department to include: • Recruitment and Retention• Member communications • Member benefits• Special interest groups• Reporting • Monthly dues billing and posting

Charged with all aspects of membership recruitment, retention, programs, affiliate relations, budget and reporting. In conjunction with the communications department, developed and managed marketing objectives, association brand, markets and promotional strategies in response to association’s mission, strategic plan and goals. Responsible for speaking about the association and the benefits of membership at various conferences, exhibits and local association meetings. Served as staff liaison to the membership subcommittee, regional council and various membership divisions.

Responsible for developing programs and services to build a partnership between the national association and its affiliated associations worldwide. Successful new programs and projects initiated included: an aggressive travel schedule to US and Canadian local shows, electronic mailing list for the staff and leadership of affiliated associations, joint membership specials, shared membership lists, monthly electronic newsletter, advertising campaign in affiliate newsletters, one-day retreat for affiliates leadership, development of a Web resource center.

Planned and marketed 4 meetings a year. Duties included site selection, contract negotiation, speaker coordination, logistical planning, exhibit sales and setup, spouse programs and golf tournaments. Developed conference sponsorship program that accounted for 30% of conference revenue.

Responsible for all aspects of association management from database administration, meeting planning, CME requirements, marketing, communications and Board and committee support for 3 national professional societies ranging from 200 to 900 members. Performed all association bookkeeping activities and worked with executive director to prepare all reports. Wrote government grant applications and ensured compliance with all grants received.
