About Juliet Swedlund

I care deeply that the work I do has a positive impact for those historically underrepresented and disenfranchised, and value opportunities to learn from, elevate, and support the work of marginalized communities. I am a life-long learner, with experience in and appreciation for effective listening, radical empathy, and understanding trauma and healing-centered care.A choice that was born from mistaken prioritization of practicality, I was an Economics/Finance major, though quickly realized I am happier serving others, and have done so through work in health behavior change, health and wellness management in the nonprofit sector, birth education and support, and eventually developing the Topeka Doula Project; a 501c3 providing birth doula services, childbirth education, and postpartum support to low income families and incarcerated folks in Shawnee County, Kansas.I am most passionate about improving experiences and outcomes for people during pregnancy, labor and birth, and the transition into parenthood by addressing systemic failures due to racism, sexism, and bigotry.
