I am currently a Junior at the University of North Texas, and I am an undergraduate pursuing a double major in Biology and Dance with a minor in Chemistry. I will be graduating Spring of 2022. After university, I will be pursuing pre-med to become a dermatologist. I was born south of Texas in San Antonio, where we are known for art and culture. Mexican culture was very important to my family and San Antonio residents. I grew up listening to Tejano music and dancing at festivals. I wanted a stronger connection with Mexican culture and learned that I had a love for dance. I danced Folklorico and flamenco since I was in middle school. When I was in high school I still had a strong passion for dance, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pursue dance as a career. I created my own dance group with the mission of helping young adults find their confidence, make new friends, and gain personal growth. In my senior year of high school, I organized my own and other dancers workshops. I learned how to create workshops through research and attending them. Creating workshops gave me the opportunity to teach summer classes at an elementary school. I enjoy helping others and building their confidence. Furthermore, I became interested in dermatology, the way your skin reacts with different chemicals and natural ingredients. Looking healthy and feeling healthy is synonymous with one another helping anyone increase their confidence. I want to be prepared to enter the medical field by interning at hospitals or clinics. Overall, I wish to enable others to feel comfortable within themselves and projecting that onto the outside world. People often encounter hardships that cause self-doubt, I wish to be able to give them any sort of push that can help them overcome it.
