A STEM commercialisation strategist, facilitator, and mentor. This role allowed me to combine my passions for scientific research, science communication, and technology transfer. I have extensive experience in industry engagement, commercialisation, and research translation. With a deep understanding of Australia’s R&D sector, I spent ten years taking new ideas to market by developing and implementing commercialisation strategies for research organisations and innovative businesses in many STEM sectors, including biomedical, space, pathology, mining, education, manufacturing and ICT. As the leader of gemaker’s award-winning Industry Engagement training program, I trained over 500 researchers from 16 research organisations to navigate the cultural differences between academia and business. I also designed and facilitated research-industry networking events to promote and enable collaboration and provided in-house client support in roles such as Marketing and Communications Manager and Commercialisation Manager. Was a member of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering’s Elevate program advisory group.

Promoted the iSTEM syllabus for secondary students. iSTEM is a NSW Department of Education-approved elective course. Ran events for secondary teachers with the aim of deepening the relationship between the secondary and tertiary teaching professions in engineering.

As the communications manager of the CRC for Low Carbon Living team, I used my knowledge of both science and business to develop and implement communications strategies, social media content, and promotional materials for the CRC. I also helped coordinate internal and external stakeholder events.

NHMRC fellowship-funded postdoctoral researcher running an independent research project aiming to further understand the pathogenesis of cerebral malaria. Co-supervised three honours and one PhD student.

Role involved; business development of research technologies, market research, liaising with researchers to create institute promotional material, animations, and the development of a shortlisted People’s Choice Eureka award nomination.

Self-funded research scientist within the Autoimmune Research Unit running an independent research program into neuropeptide interactions with the immune system. Supervised one honours and one PhD student.

PhD Thesis Title: The Y1 receptor for NPY: A novel regulator of immune cell function.

Research Assistant in Autoimmune research unit. Provided support to senior researchers, including monoclonal antibody production, animal models of autoimmunity, protein analysis, and flow cytometry.
