As a parent, I know how critical community and environment are to raising or teaching children. I understand that the impact of historical trauma and childhood trauma affects our long-term health and well-being. My approach in my work is trauma-responsive, resilience-building, and applies a healing-centered approach. I oversee the parenting education program at CCE Orange. The most popular program is "Discipline is NOT a Dirty Word," a curriculum of the Parenting Project at Cornell University. I had the honor to take the lead in updating this curriculum to be trauma-informed and resilience-building by integrating the Protective Factor Framework of the Center for the Study of Social Policy and Strengthening Families. Between September 2020 and December 2023, I provided professional development programs on building resilience via the classroom to more than 3,200 educators. Having been trained in the newly created Trauma-informed, Resilience-Building Program of the NYS Office of Mental Health, CTAC, and CCSI, I look forward to deepening this work. As part of my research, I developed a pedagogical framework that fosters an ecology of resilience and serves as a framework to build communities of belonging via a Master Community Builder Program (MCBP). The program is based on culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogies that engage participants in a multidimensional and decolonizing learning process. My latest research focuses on conversation starters that contribute to developing healing-informed sociotechnological imaginaries as frameworks for change.I love to engage in subjects, programs, and work that support social, racial, and environmental justice, and I welcome connections to advance this goal together.
