About Julio G.
If I had to ask an artist to make a painting about my career in cyber security, I’d definitely ask Bob Ross to do the job, because it’s a perfect example of a "happy accident": I was not planning to switch from development to security when I moved to the US 9 years ago, but it is the best decision that I made in my professional life. The blend of experience, knowledge, and skills that I possess due to my experience in both defensive and offensive security make me a member of the purple team. I understand the process to build a security program and I am familiar with industry's frameworks and standards, such as NIST CSF, ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI, CSA CCM, GDPR, and CCPA. I am also familiar with risk management frameworks and methodologies applicable to the assessment of the security posture of third party cloud service providers on the three cloud delivery models. On the red team arena, I am experienced conducting vulnerability assessments and penetration testing for web applications. I received the CompTIA Security+ certification in 2017, and I am a qualified candidate for CISSP and other GRC certifications.I am a highly motivated and methodical individual with a self-starter attitude. I find myself constantly reflecting on the challenge of keeping a balance between the business needs that drive security and the convenience factors that promote productivity. I thrive in an environment that welcomes diversity, encourages critical thinking, values initiative, and celebrates team work. The people that I best connect with have a clear understanding of:• The difference between having strong work ethic and being a workaholic.• The benefit of using the Occam's razor approach to maximize efficiency.• The importance of spicing up the technical skills with people skills.• The cohesive effect that authenticity and integrity have in keeping teams together.I enjoy my free time spending quality time with my family, traveling, writing, and doing photography.

Security Engineer - Third Party Risk Management
As a member of the AppSec team within the Security and Trust Organization, my work was primarily focused on conducting security risk assessments of third-party cloud service providers. This was a cross-functional work where multiple teams were involved, oftentimes in different geographic regions across the globe. My daily duties included the evaluation of the security posture of cloud service providers, covering several domains of cyber security, and recommending improvements based on data classification requirements. The goal was to help attain and maintain compliance with information security policies, standards and guidelines.
Security Consultant
My duties with the Threat Assessment Program within the Security Solutions Group had two faces: conducting vulnerability assessments (red team) and improving business processes. The latter was focused on strengthening the service delivery, including the improvement of the methodology to support multi-tier offerings, streamlining the workflow and improving consistency and legibility of assessment results, which resulted in positive feedback from customers.

I started my career in cyber security with the Cenzic CTS team, where I conducted web application vulnerability assessments and provided consultancy services. Then, when Cenzic was acquired by Trustwave, I became a member of the SpirderLabs team, where I continued to support legacy projects, and was progressively involved in web application penetration testing. I was also responsible for tutoring new analysts and producing training material, which included documentation and presentations.
