I am a medical device engineer with a passion for improving lives and patient outcomes through my work. I enjoy using my experience and skills in R&D, new product development, design, design thinking, design controls, Human-Centered Design, 3D printing, and subtractive manufacturing to innovate and advance medical technology in order to positively impact people across the globe mostly those in resource-limited settings. Biodesign Teaching, MedTech innovation coaching, Volunteering, and community service have always been important parts of my life, and thus I feel that it is my responsibility to use my engineering and medical background for the greater good and to serve those around me. I also believe that championing diversity, equity, and inclusion is a crucial aspect of advancing health for humanity. My strengths include creativity, critical thinking, teaching/lecturing, active listening, communication, as well as leadership, which I cultivated through my working at Makerere University Biomedical Engineering program and the various mentorship programs with Engineering for Change, One League Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) program, Y Combinator startup school and Stanford Online I&E classes.I am open to consulting with local and international MedTech innovators, Healthcare Startups, and big companies on medical device clinical trials and validation studies, regulatory approval, Intellectual Property, and Business model development.

Head Of Design CubeDesign Cube - Makerere University Mar 2021 - PresentMulago HillDesign Cube is a Biodesign and Innovation space housed at one of the best Medical Colleges in Africa (The College of Health Sciences at Makerere University) and we are providing a conducive environment, physical space, tools, equipment, expertise and human resource necessary to accelerate your medical innovation towards the Bedside. I lead, coordinate and supervise medical device research and innovation activities on top of mentoring trainees including fellows from Duke University sponsored by Duke Engage. I also coordinate activities for the local manufacturing of KeyScope (low-cost laparoscope), Gastro-Bag (locally manufactured gastroschisis silo bag costing $3) and Lumenda (affordable Bacterial Meningitis kit). Achievements: Mobilized resources, equipment and supplies to support the training activities. Participated in grant proposals raising funds from National Health Institute, USA to locally manufacture, clinically validated, regulate our flagship medical device- KeyScope (Low-cost laparoscope). The goal is to ensure that the innovation center can facilitate the process to locally develop and manufacture affordable medical technologies to tackle global health challenges. -
Technical Facilitator Mak-Duke Biodesign Fellowship (Uganda)Dukeengage - A Program Of Duke University Apr 2022 - PresentUgandaI support the design and implementation as a Human-Centered Design Facilitator for the Duke-Mkaerere Biodesign program. I led design classes from needs finding all through prototyping and testing of a team of students including 8 Duke students and 8 Makerere Biomedical Engineering students in an in-depth residential and experiential learning fellowship at the Design Cube.Achievements: The program is in it's second year with already 16 fellows successfully completed and added to the alumni list. Over $50,000 has been allocated for the execution of the program to cater for fellow accommodation, supplies and tools. -
Local Technical Coordinator (Uganda)Duke- Mak Partnership Keyscope Project Jun 2018 - Jul 2023UgandaWith a multi-disciplinary collaboration between biomedical engineers and surgeons at Makerere University in Uganda and Duke University in the USA, we have developed a low-cost, durable laparoscopic system for use in resource-limited settings. The Keyscope is a comprehensive set of prototypes including the ReadyKit which is the low- cost hardware laparoscope device, ReadyView; Software with Tele-mentoring interfacing and Key-loop; a retractor tool to mechanically lift the abdominal wall during surgery to eliminate the use of carbon dioxide and electricity. We completed our proof-of-concept and the first phase of animal studies, and geared up to start clinical trials in Uganda at Uganda Cancer Institute. We are also setting up the necessary equipment, partnerships, and expertise required for translation and commercialization first in Uganda and progressively in the rest of the resource-limited countries.
