My goal is to help transform the subjugating and oppressive institution of music education into an intersectionally equitable environment of empowered music making. Music Educators need to look at their philosophy, ontology, and valuations in order to disrupt systems, structures, pedagogy, and content that reinforce and celebrate white supremacy, hetero and gender normativity, able-ism, christo-centricity, and sexism. We must apply the idea of proportionality towards equity, where we represent the culture and content of marginalized, under-served and under-represented populations greater than intersections of privilege. We must change and radicalize our institution and valuations of artistry and content so we serve, represent and empower all children.
