ABOUT THE ORGANISATIONMovement Law Lab (MLL) is a US-based, international NGO promoting human rights and fundamental freedoms.MOST SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTParticipated in the drafting of an urgent appeal to the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (listed in the link below).RESPONSIBILITESMy work as the Global Program Associate specifically involved: - Advocacy & Litigation, International Human Rights Law / Public International Law. - Support of The People's Vaccine campaign, a multi-prong litigation and advocacy campaign to demand equitable global access to COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics (TRIPS waiver). The legal side of the campaign in which I was more specifically involved entailed an international coalition of civil society organisations that put in a place a multi-prong litigation in domestic courts, the European Court of Human Rights, and UN treaty bodies. To that end, I have conducted factual and legal research, identified appropriate plaintiffs, and developed strategic litigation and advocacy in domestic courts and international human rights fora.- Associate in the management of the Global Network of Movement Lawyers. The Network is comprised of about fifty like-minded lawyers from the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Europe. The issues discussed were centered around the Global North / South divide, the protection of human rights advocates around the world, and collective legal action for human rights along the theory of movement lawyering. As the associate of the Global Program, I participated in the structuring of the Network, preparing and animating its meetings, interviewing members, and preparing related documents in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Arab.

During my last year of law school, I have had the opportunity to serve as a student-Attorney at the Community and Economic Development Legal Clinic (CEDLC). American University's clinical program was ranked #2 in clinical program training among ABA-approved law schools in 2020. The CEDLC's mission is to uplift disadvantaged and discriminated against communities around the Greater Washington D.C. area by leveraging transactional law to promote equitable economic development. The CEDLC assists small businesses, workers' cooperatives, housing cooperatives, and nonprofit organizations in the District of Columbia and Maryland. Students-attorneys in the clinic apply extensive knowledge in corporate, commercial, and transactional law to assist clients that seek to positively impact their community but may otherwise lack the resources to acquire legal assistance.[DUTIES & SKILLS]• Provided legal advice to a nonprofit and a workers' cooperative in the realm of franchise law, business associations, contract law, and labor law.• Conducted clients interview, legal and factual research regarding state and federal regulations, caselaw, as well as contract drafting and legal writing. • Helped structure a group of SMBs into a workers' cooperative applying franchise law.

The COVID-19 Systems Summer Institute (CSSI) was founded during the summer of 2020 in collaboration between the Systemic Justice Project of Harvard Law School, People’s Parity Project, and the Justice Catalyst. Created in response to the pressing needs that the Covid pandemic had just raised, CSSI meant for law students to participate in the frontline work of social justice in the context of the pandemic. Through CSSI, students were also given an opportunity to engage and seek further involvement with the movements stemming from George Floyd protests.Today, CSSI supports law students from across the world as they redefine justice, and respond to injustices exposed by social and political crises. Through placements with full-time (or part-time) summer legal fellowships, working with legal and law-related organizations on the front lines of responding to crises of today. While working on urgent projects, students also participate in additional educational and community-building programming, focusing on their intellectual, practical, and personal development. My experience at CSSI involved participating in an intensive webinar, research, and reading program (2-3 workshops / day) around the topics of systemic injustice, community-based forms of lawyering, and critical race theory. I also had the opportunity to be placed for an internship with Movement law lab, an organisation by which I was later employed.
