About Jun-Gi Hwang

Initially employed by NOV I&C (Korea) during a shipyard build programmed of ultra-deepwater drillship projects where new 15K Shaffer NXT BOPs with Shaffer 5th and 6th generation 112 line multiplex control pods were installed, I performed a vital role in the installation, commissioning and maintenance of Shaffer wedge cover spherical, Dril-Quip DX and Vetco wellhead connectors, FT-GB and FT-H riser, Koomey HPU and diverter systems. This work also included replacement of the control pod 156 pin connector control pod and familiarization with the associated dual-redundant UPS and high-integrity PLC-based control systems. In my subsequent move to a contract drilling company I carried out handover and acceptance duties during the shipyard installation and commissioning of all subsea equipment including modification and maintenance tasks. Since being on location, the inspection theme has continued according to Petrobras policy while also charged with supervising assistants to ensure quality and safe working practices are maintained during drillship operations. Assisting the Senior Subsea Engineer I have carried out major maintenance of the equipment, control system modification, overseen operation of the BOP and riser running and provided troubleshooting services. While the majority of my background experience is electrical in nature I am comfortable performing any task which involves mechanical and hydraulic systems. I am also accustomed to working to engineering documentation and require little or no supervision in performing most tasks presented to me, often taking the lead role.
