Current work:• Lead research team to design and execute the protocol of preclinical studies (proof of concepts, in vivo animal models), test therapeutic effects of small compounds/peptides on ocular inflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases.• Key personnel role in clinical trial phases I, II, and III of new drugs in treatment of eye diseases, see and screen patients for study inclusion and exclusion, evaluate treatment effects, and analyze the data.• Leading role in writing research grants, which leads to receipt of 4 million USD of research money. Work includes writing preliminary results, identifying knowledge gaps, formulating research hypothesis, writing significance, introduction, and specific aims of the grants (ophthalmology, immunology, and neurosciences).• Train undergraduate and medical school students, research assistants/associates, and postdoctoral fellows in research.• Do in vitro and in vivo bench work of curiosity-driven research of ocular disease (immunology and neuroscience), including clinically relevant disease modeling, clinical evaluation of disease eyes, flowcytometry, immunostaining, confocal imaging, etc.
