I am passionate in the world of aviation. Ever since I was a young boy I have been deeply fascinated with planes and how they work. Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) has given me immeasurable amounts opportunities to discover my true capabilities. I enjoyed learning more about the aviation industry so much that I graduated as the top student of the cohort and received the Lee Kuan Yew award, the course's Gold medal and an award for outstanding project work.Being a hands-on person I love to tinker with things to learn how they work, therefore I joined NYP's Worldskills program. In this program, I am trained to be proficient in tasks such as sheetmetal repair, composite repair, rigging of flight controls, inspection of aircraft, removal and installation of aircraft component, gas turbine hot section inspection and troubleshooting electrical wiring defect. All my hard work paid off when I achieved the Gold medal in the Aircraft Maintenance trade for NYP in the 2018 Worldskills Singapore competition competing against 9 competitors from other institution. I took part in the 2018 Worldskills Russia national competition held in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia. I represented Singapore in the 45th Worldskills Competition (international) 2019 held in Kazan, Russia and achieved the Medallion for excellence in the Aircraft Maintenance trade placing top 6th in the world.While training for the international competition, I have the opportunity to visit many different companies to learn real world aviation knowledge from leading industries expert. I was attached to Bell helicopters Asia for 3 months working in the hangar along side engineers and technicians assisting them with maintenance, assembly and overhaul of many helicopters. I was attached to Bombardier for 1 week to learn about electrical wiring and avionics from a senior B2 engineer. I was also attached to ST Aerospace Technical Training Centre for 1 week to learn Sheetmetal repair and fabrication from industry experts. I attended a 3 days documentation and labels workshop at Singapore Airline Engineering Company (SIAEC).Though this journey I have only become more passionate about the aviation industry, I am currently a recipient of the Nanyang Scholarship, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering in NTU.
