About Junaid Akhtar
Currently I am heading up the Safeguarding in Faith Communities project at Birmingham Safeguarding Childrens Partnership. This project is the first of its kind for any statutory organisation in England. The work involves working with partners and faith representatives to co-create a bespoke toolkit. I am also working with regional and national groups such as National Working Group and All Party Parliamentary Group to name a few, to cascade learning. In another role at Sufi Abdullah Foundation, I have succeed in setting up numerous projects, events and campaigns. Along the way I've formed a strong working relationship with BVSC, WMFS, along with local Councillors and MPs. From 2018-2020, I served as The Chair of the board of trustees for Ghamkol Sharif Manchester. We embarked on a exciting new journey to ensure growth for the decades to come.

As a panel member with a background in governance, safeguarding and financial analysis, I presented reasons for why or why not projects should be funded. These projects focused on physical activity, mental health, and the arts. The fund was set up to continue the Legacy of the Commonwealth Games 2022. Organisations varied in size, with many especially grassroots organisations, across our super diverse region applying. I had to ensure funding was provided equitably across the region in line with the priority of the fund.
