With the support of optical and mechanical engineers, I complete project by doing schematic design, PCB routing, SPICE simulation, FPGA design, and software implementation such as real-time embedded firmware, Linux device drivers, and SDK for end users.TruCAMI invented TruCAM (US patents US7920251 and more) that integrates a laser speed detector and a digital video camera that can read number plates at 125 to 250 meters away. I designed hardware, ported Linux kernel, implemented Linux drivers and application software. I provided a key idea of optics of the camera. I designed with 1GHz IMX6 Dual Core processor, 528MHz DDR3 RAM and eMMC. I did PCB routing to match length and impedance for high speed signals. Clocks use either spectrum spread or factional multiplication to reduce electromagnetic radiation. 2 Channel Vehicle simulator for laser speed measurement deviceIt has four independent delay blocks those are updated at a given time interval according to the set speed. It is double buffered logic so that two delay blocks simulate speed; one is always active and the other is being updated new distance: xn = xn-1 + vn-1t where t = 1/60000 second. The delay block can set in units of 0.64 ps, showing accuracy of 9.6ps. It can simulate all kinds of patterns like acceleration. I designed and implemented digital part of hardware and software. I verified analog circuit by SPICE simulator and tuned parameters. Main core is a FPGA implemented in Verilog. Time-to-digital converter by FPGAI prefer a fully digital circuit which has self-calibration functions. My FPGA shows great performance and reduces manufacturing time. Distance accuracy shows 100ps (15mm) RMS accuracy. On stationary targets, it provides under millimeter accuracy relatively. It can be used on fast moving targets with a couple of centimeters accuracy. -

After the successful launch of Sports Toto, a proposal to work on this project came in. So I went to Africa to develop it... But... the contract didn't come true. One day, when I met a pistol-armed robber, I thought I should move to a safer place. So, I applied to an American company and got on a 20-hour flight for an interview. It is a very pleasant memory.

I remember I programmed an on-line wagering system without sleeping every day. I had to manage many engineers during the day and drink with customers at night. Then I returned to the office at 2 a.m. and programmed critical communications and encryption. It was a very interesting period in my life until I realized that political ties drove the business. At that time, I failed in the venture business and was looking for a new job. Sports Toto wanted to launch the system before the 2002 World Cup. It was developing with LG-CNS and Italian SNAI by investing 60 billion won. Development was delayed, and communication protocols were not defined, and it was a mess. The founder asked me if I could develop within 6 months and operate within 1 year. I did it. Life itself was very abnormal. I could go home about once a week, and every day, I was full of work. My health was threatened and I started gaining weight. After a successful launch, I decided to leave Korea to live a normal life.
