Responsibilities• Raise and lead a research team as hired in a newly starting research center, which includes research goals setting, hiring post-doc and students and fully equipped with instrument (both home-built and commercial). • Train and supervise post-doc and students and lead research activities. • Participate the decision-making discussion to build a new research center including goal setting for the center, hiring people, instrument purchase and building infra-structures. Achievements• Successfully built my own research team by launching the independent research goals (spin on insulators from single atoms or molecules), main strategies (AFM based spin detection) and by hiring a post-doc and students.• Demonstrated two UHV low-temperature AFM-STM systems fully functional in atomic resolution and spin detection.• Lead several scientific experiments including silicon surface, dynamics of single hydrogen molecules, atomic configuration of N-defects on graphene, Fe spin on NaCl, Ho spin on MgO etc.• Develop customized programming (Matlab) for instrument control, data acquisition and analysis. • Collaborated with several companies to achieve the best performance of instruments.

Responsibilities• Conduct experiments about materials characterization using photothermal induced resonance technique (PTIR) • Nano-fabricate the plasmonic metamaterials for optical detection. • Upgrade PTIR system to increase the sensitivity using specially design force sensor. • Maintain the PTIR system working with manufacturing company (Nanosys).Achievements• Implemented serval nanoscale characterization experiments of semiconductors and energy related materials in nano-meter scale using PTIR.• Fabricated plasmonic metamaterials using e-beam lithography technique including SEM imaging. Measured the local enhanced IR absorption using PTIR.• Modified the PTIR system adaptable with a special force sensor including upgrade of commercial interface programming collaborated with the manufacturer.

Responsibilities• Conduct experiments about electronic structure of graphene. • Participate the graphene electronics fabrications including graphene transfer, metal deposition with shadow mask.• Maintain the home-built UHV low-temperature STM system including atomically sharp STM tip fabrication.Achievements• Adapted new measurement technique (gate map tunnelling spectroscopy) for the charge carrier density dependent electronic structure of graphene at the atomic scale.• Intensively interacted with lab technicians and software engineers at CNST to maintain the system and to adapt the new measurement technique.
