Dr. Shan Gao is a dynamic leader in health policy advocacy and the biopharmaceutical industry, with extensive experience in forging strategic partnerships, leading industry-wide advocacy efforts, and managing large-scale health programs. Currently serving as Deputy Executive Director at PhRMA Beijing Office, Shan spearheads advocacy efforts for global biopharmaceutical companies, focusing on market access, regulatory sciences, and intellectual property protection of innovative medicines. He heads flagship industry events such as the International Pharmaceutical Innovation Forum (IPIF), the China Joint Strategy Session (JSS), and policy research and advocacy project, facilitating high-level dialogues between government agencies and PhRMA member companies.Before joining PhRMA, Shan held senior positions at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in New York and Beijing, where he led country program negotiation and implementation for China, managed large-scale community-based health research and intervention programs, and led award-winning media campaigns with focus on adolescent health, women's health and population aging. His earlier work at the China Development Research Foundation focused on child health and public policy advisory.Dr. Shan Gao holds a PhD in Public Health from the University of Bath, a Master’s Degree in Global Health from Duke University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Renmin University of China. He has been recognized by renowned institutes for his work in advancing international public health, including by The Asia Foundation as an Asia Development Fellow and by the Asia Society as an Asia 21 Young Leader. Dr. Shan Gao has published widely in international journals, including BMJ.
