Insurance billing specialists, also called coding specialists, expedite the medical billing process. They use specialized knowledge of both medicine and insurance policies to communicate with insurance companies on behalf of medical personnel and patients. Insurance companies and programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid, determine reimbursements owed to patients based on the diagnosis and health condition codes assigned by these specialists.Specific Job Duties Include:•Conducts audits on all hospital and MD billing daily.•Responsible for daily receipts posting.•Responsible for reviewing and requesting missing census information for billing accuracy.•Responsible for ensuring all labs and pharmacy items are in a timely manner.•Posts deductibles in system, as reflected on the explanation of benefits from the insurance.•Handles COBRA paperwork to ensure election is done as needed.•Audits all HCFA and UB's before sending to the carriers to ensure 100% accuracy.•Communicates with Collections Department to resolve billing issues in a timely manner.•Communicates with the Director of Patient Accounts regarding claim transmission reports and any other issues.•Maintains timely billing corrections.•Maintains contractual adjustments for contract companies and ensures accounts are properly tagged.
