Advisor: Virginia Lorenz, David Cahill--Magnetoresistance and torque magnetometry of bulk metallic antiferromagnets (AFs)• Designed experiments to investigate the mechanisms of electric switching in metallic AFs, candidate materials for spintronics memory devices • Established a procedure to prepare high quality AFs lamella from bulk crystal by polishing or using focused ion beam for electric measurements• Conducted temperature dependent transport and magnetic properties measurements, such as magnetoresistance, torque magnetometry, in cryogenic vacuum chamber PPMS• Strategically planed experiments on shared equipment, adjusting plans accordingly due to unforeseeable interruptions• Analyzed experimental data and fit to theoretical prediction numerically• Collaborated with faculty and fellow graduate students across 4 departments i-MERSEC• Presented research at American Physical Society meetings and published in PR Applied--Customized transverse thermoelectric measurements of magnetic thin films • Extended 3-omega method to magnetothermal measurements of magnetic materials in search of candidates for energy harvesting and heat flux sensing• Employed magnetron sputtering deposition, photolithography and ion beam etching to create the device• Optimized the fabrication recipe for magnetic film device based on A/B testing• Built model to calculate temperature rise in the device numerically • Utilized Python to remote control all 4 instrument in the experiment, automate data collection, clean and storage • Designed, built, integrated a customized circuit bridge box to improve the signal to noise ratio, to detect one-part-per-million signals• Developed problem solving skills by collaboratively debugging machine components, including electronics, cryogenics and hardware interface
