About Brian Hochgurtel
In the Beginning....I've been coding since I was 12 years old when I was given a TI94A as a birthday present. When I started college coding didn't really interest me because business was still focused on the IBM green screen, but as I finished my college career the web was just starting to grow. I saw the potential there and I was hooked. I started doing web and database projects for my Chemistry professors, and through them I started getting job offers to do programming work. I choose to take an offer at AMC Cancer Center doing MS Access, SAS, and web programming because it was a great mesh of my programming and scientific interests.Over the years I've had the opportunity to write articles and books with people I've worked, and I've been exposed to several industries including medical research. education, CAD, telecommunications, aviation, and energy. My past has taught that it's great fun to learn new things and to explore new and challenging problems. The Now...I'm having great fun working in the IoT world by bringing an edge device, mobile apps, and a website to customers that own UV disinfection systems at water treatment plants. We have released our Minimal Viable Product and are starting to get customer feedback. In addition, we are in the process of adding additional feature to our mobile app to make it a more complete solution.
Listed skills include Sharepoint, Microsoft Sql Server, C#, Software Development, and 36 others.

Senior Software And Data Engineering Manager
CurrentWorking with Hach, Trojan, FSData (Flow) and other water quality group companies on analyzing data from our various IoT projects to ensure data driven decision making and that each project has an acceptable ROI. I am also building an infrastructure to support the creation of dashboards using Power BI and Azure Data Explorer. In addition, I am moving our flow product line from an infrastructure based on IaaS to PasS in order to allow for growth. The current VM infrastructure is expensive and is time consuming to restore after an outage. We have improved redundancy, but failover is still to time consuming for an IoT project.Technical Keywords: SQL Server Hyperscale, Azure Data Explorer, SQLBulk Copy, C#, ETL

Tectonic is a consulting firm focused on big data integration and visualizations of data to and from Salesforce. I was on the big data team and we focused on the ETL of data that was destined for SalesForce or for visualization in a variety of tools including Google Data Studio, Looker, and Tableau. My job was to engage the client, gather requirements, anticipate client needs, manage agile sprints, and provide overall direction when the client was unsure of project direction.Consulting in a senior role is interesting since I was able to touch a variety of technologies that were cloud-based to solve customer needs. Since we were a Google partner, we focused on providing these services within Google Cloud Platform including Kubernetes, Cloud Database (MySQL and Postgres), and Google Big Query. I also standardized Python development with Pycharm to provide a standard work environment for the developer that included interactive debugging which helped accelerate our Microservice development.
