I perform bulk antibody purifications for the Antibody Manufacturing Lab using various purification methods. I utilize the appropriate AKTA machine or biologic to perform these purifications on columns of varying sizes and types. Occasionally, I also prepare buffers needed for these processes.I work closely with a small team to accomplish my tasks within a timely manner. I strictly adhere to the job schedule without sacrificing quality. “Sex Differences in the Effects of Acute Ethanol Treatment on the Mesolimbic Dopamine System in Mice”An academic-year long research project analyzing the dopamine reward pathway in mice who have been exposed to low levels of ethanol. The project looked at the differences between male and female mice by staining for the dopamine marker, tyrosine hydroxylase.Main tasks included: - Sectioned rat brains at 30microns and stored them in cryoprotectant- Mounted 30microns mouse brains onto slides and stained against tyrosine hydroxylase using immunohistochemistry- Analyzed stained slides with light microscopy and ImagePro software- Presented research at Susquehanna University’s Senior Scholar’s Day in Selinsgrove, PA during the poster session

I designed and implemented a peer tutoring program for chemistry and biology. By collaborating with faculty in the biology and chemistry department, I was able to set up a program that hired 11 tutors and serviced 34 students in its first semester.Over the course of the semester, my responsibilities included:- Hiring tutors and scheduling hours- Supervision of the tutoring sessions- Relaying information between tutors and supporting faculty- Record keeping of who attended the sessions and their reason whyThe following semester, I was able to pass the supervision of the program over to faculty with minimal changes to the initial program.

I worked as a full-time research assistant for Dr. Margaret Peeler at Susquehanna University for a three-month research project. Our team of five undergraduate research students along with the principal researcher, Dr. Peeler, analyzed gene expression in the PCP and Hippo signaling pathways during sea urchin embryogenesis. Some of the tasks we completed over the three months included:- Created and tracked sea urchin cultures on a weekly basis- Fixed sea urchin embryos in 4% paraformaldehyde- Made RNA-probes for in-situ hybridization- Created stock solutions-Gel electrophoresis and imagingWe presented our findings during a poster session at a local undergraduate research conference.
