It's great to work for honest people, near home and family.Sr. Designer / CAD ManagerJune 2010 – September 2014 (4 years 4 months)The eye of the economic storm had past, but the local civil industry had been left beaten and fragile when I was brought onto staff at Hawkins & Associates Engineering, Inc. in 2010. I was hired as a design drafter but naturally began wearing the hat of CAD Manager and sometimes IT Manager as needed. It was clear to me that we needed to capitalize on the downturn of the economy by upgrading our tools, revamping our standards, and redeveloping our processes ahead of the industry’s recovery. I began by developing and executing a plan to transition the office from using Autodesk’s legacy civil design software, Land Desktop, to their modern offering, AutoCAD Civil 3D. This plan required a logical reconstruction of the office’s digital filing system, major update to project creation processes, and a training regimen to ready the design staff for the next economic upswing. Though it was not a painless task, I’m proud to say that Hawkins & Associates engineering has completely broken its dependency of Land Desktop and has not used it for several years now. The greenest grasses I have ever grazed where under the roof of Thompson-Hysell Engineering, Inc. The environment was one that promoted growth in both the professional and personal lives of its employees. It had a level of teamwork and camaraderie unlike any I have seen before. I hope to experience something like that again someday. All team members were encouraged to perform the best they could. Constructive mentoring and guidance by senior engineers, management and the founders of the company supported this encouragement. Design Drafting

My first Civil Engineering position. I worked directly under (one of the owners at the time) Anthony Cannella's supervision. He designed/engineered while I drafted and began learning civil engineering concepts. He and I once achieved the approval of the improvement plans for a 48 lot subdivision on 1st submittal. Anthony told me at the time, that I would probably never see that again during my career. So far, he was correct. To date, I have not seen this again.
