I love data, analytics and providing insight as it just makes so much sense. Adding insight to shape the way businesses improve and progress is what makes me tick. Not forgetting my wife and son, who are, and always will be, my main priority.I always thought my dream job would be sports or geography related as both were my passion throughout childhood. It seemed like this dream was going to become reality with my BSc in Geology and Physical Geography followed by an MSc in Water Resource Technology and Management. However, my career path took different direction and I found that I was not only interested in, but actually enjoyed analysing data to get results.So, here are 5 quick things about me and my work. Take them or leave them.1. First off, I am a family man and would do anything for my wife and 6 year old son. 2019 has been a traumatic year for us all as in May we lost our second child a few days before he was due. I only mention this as I believe it has made me a stronger, more resilient person and driven me to make my family proud.2. I am happy working alone, in a team or managing people. • Previously led a successful small team and received praise from senior management from improving efficiency and productivity. • Led a successful transformation of how business forecasts are produced utilising insights from multiple areas and pulling them together to present and produce reports.• Work as part of a data, MI and Insights function to steer the business towards a better future.3. I am laid back but driven. Analytical but creative. Innovative and reliable. Hardworking and honest (maybe too honest sometimes!).4. How do I sum up my work? I help people see things in a different way. Shape the way businesses approach the future. Improve output through efficiency and productivity. 5. I am always learning. I have worked for British Gas and National Grid, two large UK businesses, which has enabled me to get a wide ranging knowledge of the energy industry from providing data to help prevent energy theft, to forecasting workload, to analysing big data and providing insight.So far I have SAP, Business Objects, SQL, SAS Enterprise Guide, Power BI, MS Office Word, Access, Excel including VBA, PowerPoint and Outlook. I am still enthusiastically trying to learn new skills and always willing to learn.
