I started with Gardonville Cooperative Telephone part time prior to gaining full time status in July of 2008. My part time duties were to assist in plowing service drops such as fiber and copper to the customer premise. I assisted in DSL, fiber, video and 700Mhz wireless customer premise installations. When I gained full time status for Gardonville Cooperative Telephone in July 2008, I moved into an Install / Repair Technician role for the customer premise services. I would go to the customer premise to fix / repair DSL, phone, fiber, video and 700Mhz wireless services. I would assist customers in setting up and repairing their in home networking devices, PC's and miscellaneous IP based devices. After a year of troubleshooting and repair in the field, I worked into a Customer Tech Support which involved over the phone tech support and assisting customers with troubleshooting all services that Gardonville Cooperative Telephone had to offer. This role also included carrying out customer requests for DNS changes, website setup, email setup / repair, windows and linux based server work (DHCP servers, mail servers, domain controllers and print servers). I manually built and installed custom desktop PC's to work with our domain applications. After 14 months of tech support duties, I worked into my current role as an Internet Specialist. This involves installation, operations and maintenance of Allied Telesis Access gear. Some duties include configuration of new equipment, software upgrades to existing equipment, troubleshooting customer premise / network side issues and watching the overall health of the customer access network. With this role I am assisting in configuration and maintenance of Cisco core switches and routers. I am working with Layer 3 routing and switching protocols and multicast video. I work with other switching brands such as Brocade and Extreme. I am starting to get more involved with our Genband telephone switch and other Voice / VoIP services.
