Stemming from my university research funded by the Canadian government, I Co-Founded Mark One and created Vessyl -- a smart cup that automatically knows what's inside and automatically tracks the nutrients that you consume.Vessyl was featured in nearly every major news publication globally including Time, Wired, Fast Company, WSJ, CNN, Bloomberg, TechCrunch, and Recode.During the unveiling of Vessyl in June 2014, live demonstrations of the sensor technology to journalists received wide praise. Wired called it “a fascinating milestone”. CNN called it “groundbreaking”. And Lauren Goode of Recode reported that she was “wowed”.***As CEO, I raised venture capital from Felicis Ventures, Horizons Ventures, and Intel Capital.In June 2015, after raising a Series A from Intel Capital, I stepped down as CEO to hand the role to an executive that I was recruiting. Beginning in 2007, during my 3rd Year of University, I had the privilege to "create the future" at the Human Media Lab, at Queen's University. This laboratory was focused on the Internet of Things. Some people were putting computers in eyeglass form factors, some people were putting computers into wristband form factors -- I wanted to put a computer inside one of the most foundational objects in the history of the human race -- the beverage vessel. And so I did.The Canadian government decided to fund my research -- focused on Internet of Things -- where I was putting a computer inside of a cup.The intent of this funding was specifically focused -- on turning university research into a product that one day customers could buy.***After working on this project for 5 years at the Human Media Lab -- we made a large enough breakthrough -- that in November of 2012 -- we started a company focused on my research. And the Canadian government once again -- supportive of my work -- was the first check into the new company.This company, would become Mark One.
