Experienced writer with a strong science background who has worked in academia, the newsrooms, and nonprofit/biotech sectors. I specialize in translating complex science through compelling narratives and communications strategies. In my most recent role as the Director of External Affairs at OpenBiome—a healthcare and research nonprofit—I worked with the CEO to rebrand the organization. This involved defining core messaging (such as mission and vision statements), leading the redesign of OpenBiome’s website, cultivating media relations, and organizing attendance of academic conferences. I was also the principal writer on key communications including website and social media content, white papers, thought leadership pieces, and annual reports. These experiences have honed my skill at condensing complicated ideas into a variety of communications and content as well as crafting absorbing narratives for a wide range of audiences. Before working at OpenBiome, my scientific writing was recognized by the MIT Department of Biology as well as the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). While a graduate student at MIT, I published profiles of scientists that were featured on the Biology Department’s website to engage the public and prospective students. In 2018, I was awarded the AAAS Mass Media and Science Engineering Fellowship, which allowed me to intern at STAT news—a sister company of the Boston Globe that covers the frontier of health and medicine.
