As a principal engineer at Thermoworks, my role is to lead the design, development, and implementation of complex systems for IoT and cloud. I am responsible for helping develop new products or improving existing ones.I provide guidance, and technical expertise to ensure that our hardware and cloud computing systems are of the highest quality, reliability, and performance. I also mentor and train junior engineers and work closely with other departments, such as sales, marketing, and customer support, to ensure that our products meet the needs of our customers and the market. Overall, my role is critical to the success of the ThermoWorks product development team and the products we create.

Created a product quoting system to allow for the sales staff, resellers and different divisions of the company to request or produce quotes from SystemMetrics. We then integrated this system with Salesforce to allow for a seamless continuation of the quoting process. Created a unified dashboard for internal staff to display client data from various systems. Previously there was no easy way to determine what services a client had with the company. This allowed for better customer service as our sales and engineering staff we able to have a whole picture of a customer's services with us. Implemented a workflow system to help when new contracts are signed. This process took the signed contract from the quoting system and created/assigned tasks. As tasks were completed it notified the accounting department and the customer to let them know their services were ready to use. Created a customer portal for clients to make changes to their Voice over IP System. This included creating, changing call schedules, Visual Voicemail, e911 Requirements. It also allowed clients to view call records and see what devices were currently registered to their system.Created a system to retrieve power usage information from our Data Center. This system included dashboard reporting tools as well as an alert system for customers that were over utilizing.Moved internal resources (web apps, databases, reporting) to Azure / Azure Stack. This freed internal resources that could be sold to customers and improved our reliability. I worked for SystemMetrics as Employee until December of 2015 and then transitioned into a full-time contract for them when I moved to American Fork from Hawaii.

Managed a department of developers, quality assurance testers and contractors. Migrated the team off of Source Safe and on to Team Foundation Server. Required that all new code have unit tests. This helped us to improve the speed at which we were completing user stories and helped our quality assurance team create additional tests. Setup build servers and automated testing. Here we were able to reduce the number of bugs released as we made changes to the system. With the help of the project management group, we implemented an iterative development process that helped us to deliver our projects on time. It also helped us to develop better quality software to our end user because we included them through the development process. Created a process to train new developers on internal systems and help them to learn the coding standards.

Designed and implemented a large-scale data migration from a legacy COBOL system to SQL Server. This migration involved 10’s of millions of transactions. The records had to be cleaned and validated before they were inserted into the SQL database. The data changes were updated on a nightly base and validation occurred weekly to catch any issues that had occurred during the week. Designed and implemented an API System for external data subscribers to retrieve property information through a WCF Service. This implementation included large amounts of documentation, example projects, and support.Updated external client portal to allow for access across all device types. Allowing clients to get information on the road or in the office using the same site. Helped implement a core system replacement of the escrow system. This process included heavily modifying an off the shelf solution to work with the custom software used internally. Modifications included loading data from a custom contact management system, retrieving and adding documents generated by the new escrow system to a custom document management solution. Implemented an estimation site that allows internal users to generate estimates for clients. The site greatly increased efficiencies and improved response time.
