27 years experience as a firefighter in Australia, coupled with Masters qualifications in emergency Management from Charles Sturt University has given me a practical and theoretical base. I have attended and assisted to manage a large range of emergency situations across Australia including major Cyclones, significant flood events, wild fire campaigns and a huge variety of Fire/Chemical/Rescue type incidents. My theoretical base has included the co-development of a high rise training course aimed at bridging the gap between fire fighters and the complexities of building fire safety systems. I have had a variety of papers published Internationally on the subject of high-rise fire safety and firefighting and am a regular presenter at high-rise building conferences both nationally and internationally. In 2017 I was awarded a Churchill Fellowship which involved extensive travel researching the subject of Evacuation from Tall Buildings and large structures. Additional projects include the development of the Australian Firefighter Safety Initiative with a focus on reducing firefighter exposure to toxic fire effluents.
