My name is Justin Harrison and I am a mechanical engineer from the University of Houston. I am currently working as a manufacturing engineer for Schlumberger in Katy, Texas. I am a nontraditional student, having spent over a decade in the automotive collision repair industry, starting as a repair technician. My desire to develop my skills and further my career led to my promotion to service advisor, which involved dealing directly with customers and insurance companies and ensuring that the repair process went smoothly for both parties. Having only a sixth-grade education, I was determined to better myself and take steps towards a career I would enjoy. I received my GED certification, and shortly after moving to Houston in 2014, I began taking night and online classes, while continuing to work a 60-hour work week. Throughout this time, I was consistently ranked a top service advisor for the Houston area. I have a personal understanding of the diligence it takes to be successful and believe I consistently demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. During the summer of 2019, I interned with Kinder Morgan in Colorado Springs, Colorado as a pipeline integrity engineer. I created tracking logs that were utilized for a 22-hour pig run, of which I actively worked as a pig tracker. I received a return internship offer with Kinder Morgan for the summer of 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the program was cancelled. I was disappointed but understanding the value of both education and hands-on experience, I took the opportunity to take engineering courses to better prepare myself for my senior year.I graduated cum laude in May 2021 and received a full-time job offer from Schlumberger. I began working at one of their manufacturing facilities in June 2021. I was promoted to lead engineer for the bearings section of the facility within the first 6 months of my role, demonstrating my strong commitment to learn. I developed Hazard Analysis and Risk Control procedures to mitigate risks and minimize injury, bringing the facility up to Schlumberger standards for Process Safety Management. I coordinated multiple CNC machine moves and installations to and from multiple manufacturing facilities, as well as completed Value Stream Mapping of the manufacturing facility to identify bottlenecks and optimize process flow using Lean Six Sigma methodology. In addition, I have created a sustainable daily reporting process with corresponding Power BI to visualize production trends over time, promoting visibility across the facility.
