The it took to gather information on a contract went from around 2 weeks to minutes. The solution uses Angular, typescript, AWS serverless, AWS DynamoDB, AWS Glue, and AWS redshift. It pulls together data from different source systems into one easy to navigate common architecture and is optimized for accessibility. I decided on and facilitate code reviews, PR approval process, branching strategy and the environment promotion process. In addition to architecting the system, I also lead the team in all the standard agile practices in all parts of the software development lifecycle. I work with stakeholders to categorize, prioritize and plan new work as the solution is developed and feedback is gathered. The technologies used were Azure ADO, AWS Lambda, AWS DynamoDB, AWS RedShift, AWS Glue, Angular, Typescript, and AWS SNS/SQS Large Oil and Gas CompanyArchitected and lead a team to develop an internal tool that reduced the businesses need to hire additional DBAs for a required database technology migration deadline. This tool Translated one database language to another quickly and reliably reducing the time needed to migrate code by a drastic 90%.Both teams operated in a SAFe Agile environment and I played a large role in maintaining standards of software development as new, valuable work became known. At a team level, I facilitated code reviews, backlog grooming, sprint planning and daily standups. The technologies used were Azure Cloud, Powershell, Ansible, PLSQL, TSQL, AAD, and ADO CICD, C#, ANTLR, SonarCube, Language Grammars, Parser Trees, and Powerapps. -
Software Engineering Manager IiPariveda Jun 2020 - Jun 2021Dallas, Texas, UsLarge Oil and Gas CompanyArchitected and lead a team to implement an automation written in Ansible to reduce the spend in Azure. The automation used log analytics queries, Azure resource graph, Powershell scripting, agent pools, and CI CD to determine opportunities to reduce costs and schedule/perform the needed changes. This automation saved the business ~30M in cloud costs. We build many other automations that enabled our users to modernize their applications or migrate to the cloud. The team operated in a SAFe Agile environment and I played a large role in maintaining standards of software development as new, valuable work became known. At an org level I was a part of a team that prioritized and valued features as they were discovered. Software Engineering ManagerPariveda Jul 2019 - Jun 2020Dallas, Texas, UsLarge HospitalLead a team to design and apply a Predictive Analytics solutions to improve operations for the specialty pharmacy department. The models designed include predicting patients at risk for a deficit or surplus of their medications through the life of their prescriptions and predicting patients’ likelihood of converting to program offerings. The team used supervised algorithms in Azure Machine Learning Studio and an explanatory approach to feature design to create value for the client. Models are created and retrained daily in order to enable operationalization of the results as well as changing trends over time. The team used Python for Data Analytics with Jupyter notebooks, Numpy, and Pandas to create easy to read visualizations in order to better explain data relationships. SQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, and blob storage were used to automate the prediction results for use by the client.Communications CompanyLead a small team for a short time in developing a RestAPI Adapter in Javascript/Typescript to enable applications to monitor/update AppPools and other configurations in different application environments.Mobile ApplicationLead a small team in making updated UI design requirements to an existing Mobile application. Senior Software Engineer IiPariveda Apr 2018 - Aug 2019Dallas, Texas, UsLarge Energy CompanyProgram Administrator for a large effort to consolidate and optimize all Infrastructure resources in on-prem and cloud solutions. The goal of the program was to reduce overall Infrastructure spend by validating whether workloads should be in the cloud (AWS/Azure) or remain on-prem, consolidation of VMs, and decommissioning what was not needed. The team built automation pipelines for use in AWS and Azure which were used to deploy resources in both environments once decisions were made. The effort was able to produce a large reduction in spend (~15-20M) in a short amount of time resulting in a much more manageable Infrastructure footprint going forward.I was also was in a Scrum Master role during this effort. I defined best practices and held teams to those standards. I maintained all recurring procedures and continually reinforced feedback loops during the project life cycle. This enabled the team to better organize and attack what was a large undertaking -
Senior Software EngineerPariveda Nov 2016 - Apr 2018Dallas, Texas, UsLarge Energy CompanyDevelopment team lead on a heavily custom financial application. The solution was meant to provide a streamlined way for Analysts and Managers to book Accruals and other Journal entries during the Estimate to Actuals process and close of a month. I took a lead role in requirements gathering and overall solution design from a business perspective. with the help of the team, He translated the complicated and sometimes undefined structures into a unified system so Operational accounting could reduce the time it took to close a month during work day 1.The database is relational SQL is the source of truth for the Operational Accounting teams Estimate to Actuals process. The service layer is Web API using Dapper/DapperPlus and Repository and factory patterns. The MVC website allows users of different access levels, using AD groups, to access different parts of the application. The front end is written in Javascript with 3rd party tools to enable custom grids and other functionality. The project began in Nov of 2017. Since the start date Justin has been able to contribute to every aspect of the project lifecycle. -
Solution Development LeadAvanade Jun 2015 - Oct 2016Seattle, Washington, UsLead developer on a custom security software development project. The service portion is a service that acts as an authorization framework. The MVC website allows an admin user to administer roles and the authorization scopes of other users in the application. Since the start date Justin has been able to contribute to every aspect of the project lifecycle. The project uses ServiceStack to implement a RESTful API service for the administration website to consume. I helped design and implement the entity model made changes to allow for additional features. I helped design the front end focusing on ease of use C# and .NET framework 4.5 are used to construct the service and web components. The project solutions are deployed using NUGET internally to allow other applications and services to easily consume and use their components. MVC, JavaScript, Razor, and Telerik controls are used to construct the UI of the application. I worked closely with the BA to improve usability and overall user experience. I also worked closely with the solution architect to maintain the TFS branches and code quality. I regularly execute code reviews of other developers and assisted in all efforts that included code changes. The project is utilizing an Agile Scrum methodology with formal design documentation and code/design review process. Software EngineerAvanade Apr 2016 - Aug 2016Seattle, Washington, UsI assisted in developing a P.O.C using WIF and ADFS 3.0 with SAML-token based authentication. This P.O.C was used to prove the viability of adapting the existing system to use this new framework for authentication to increase overall performance and communication between the layers. I also assisted in various production support issues throughout the application.I also developed a POC that simulates the use of RabbitMQ as a queuing and messaging system. The POC included a RESTful service receiving and processing requests, a client making requests, and various other clients listening to queues to handle different simulated fail-over scenarios. The POC is used to highlight RabbitMQ and its potential as a messaging framework for a future system. RabbitMQ is built on the Erlang programming language and is a 3rd party messaging and queuing framework.I was also a key part of developing an Avanade example within the client of SCRUM and Agile methodology. -
Solutions ConsultantAvanade Apr 2015 - Jun 2015Seattle, Washington, UsSoftware Engineer on a development team that supported engineers in the field with applications that they use every day. I assisted in setting up a test environment for one of the applications. I then developed a utility that would extract BLOB entries in an ORACLE database, and convert them back to the file they were before they were compressed and stored. I worked with compression and decompression of files combined with binary codecs to successfully extract the files for the client. -
