Experienced consulting structural engineer involved in contemporary new build design and a conservation minded approach to the inspection, appraisal, and repair of historic buildings. Extremely grateful to have had, and continue to have the opportunities to use the knowledge acquired over many years and apply it to a wide range of projects within the historic environment. The portfolio of structures advised upon to date has included castles, a rare survival high status Tudor timber framed domestic building, ruins, churches and spires. There is also the special Arts & Crafts buildings, the Victorian schools and colleges, and the enchanting 18th century follies and garden buildings. The often modest but beautiful vernacular domestic dwellings, the imposing 16th and 18th century manor houses and mansions, and the challenging high-end refurbishments of listed buildings. The Modernist early 20th century buildings bring their own problems; the classical stone facades with Regent Street Disease is one. Some projects involved buildings designated scheduled ancient monuments and others located within a world heritage site.Together with a former colleague we set up our own practice in 2021, Moyo & McAteer Consulting Engineers, where we continue our journey to assist and contribute to the enhancement of contemporary built architecture, as well as ensuring the care and protection of our heritage assets.
