I currently work part-time during the summer and winter as an Assistant Glazier for Alan McDermott's Glass. Responsibilities of this job consist of fixing windows, doors, and screens for residential and commercial buildings. However, the work ethic and problem-solving that I have learned from this job is invaluable. I have learned how to communicate with customers when an issue arises and the deadline for the job must be changed. I have learned how to problem-solve to another degree when a certain job does not go as planned. Most of all, I have learned that there is no substitute for hard work and effort.

My role as a tax intern at Plante Moran consisted of many responsibilities. The work was very team based which made the skill of communication key to every engagement. The majority of my internship revolved around preparing work papers and tax returns depending. I have learned the importance of building relationships and networking throughout this experience. An interaction/project that some of the interns worked on was at a leadership conference in Dublin, Ohio. We attended a leadership conference led by our office managing partner. He spoke about leadership and ethical issues throughout the world and office. After his presentation, we had the audience split into separate groups and conducted discussions that the interns led. My group discussed ethical issues with forest fires. Through leading this group, I understood the importance of the questions I needed to ask. I also realized that it is quite difficult to keep the conversation going and come up with questions that I did not previously prepare! However, this moment taught me to think on the spot and persevere when help was not there. I also learned a lot of different perspectives and ways of thinking that I had not thought of.

My role as a Supervisor at the Ping Recreational Center includes the responsibility of managing a team of 4 Member Services Assistants while helping with patrons' needs and issues. As a team, we face a variety of problems throughout each shift and continue to learn how to solve each problem more effectively and efficiently. My aim is to lead by example and manage the team to provide the best experience for our patrons.This past summer, a group of Supervisors and I were given a unique opportunity to help change the expectations and culture at the Ping Recreational Center. In the past, our productivity and engagement levels were subpar. Through numerous meetings and conversations with upper management and other co-workers, we started this change by reinstating our expectations and customer service policies. It starts with the communication of the Supervisors and upper management to do so. It's a constant process that we strive to improve everyday to ensure our patrons are given the best experience possible!
