Growing up, The Cosby Show was a very influential part of my childhood. When Theodore Huxtable, one of Bill Cosby’s children on the show, went to New York University, I thought to myself “that’s where I want to go!” Then, of course, The Cosby Show went off the air and I grew up, but I always remembered Theodore Huxtable’s passion for helping others and the fact that he attended NYU. Like Theodore, I have a passion for helping at risk youth. As a military veteran, I have also seen the difficulties that veterans face, particularly those who have served in wars overseas. Therefore, another goal of mine is to do something to meet the needs of returning veterans.Recently obtaining my Masters and bachelors in Social Work from New York University, I also served as Vice President of NYU's Military Alliance; bringing together military active duty, veterans, and dependents of veterans and active duty personnel, to fellowship and network among individuals whom served in the armed forces. I have already made some progress towards achieving my educational and professional goals. I am also a New York State OASIS Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee, with an associate degree in Mental Health and Human Services from Kingsborough Community College. I was an officer in Kingsborough’s domestic violence education and prevention program (A.C.E.) As a member of this program, I work with other student interns to reduce the incidence of domestic and dating violence through education and outreach. This outreach is done through in-person presentations at local schools and colleges as well as over the internet.
