With extensive experience designing and manufacturing equipment in the Medical Device, Aerospace, and Defense industries, it became apparent that automation solutions were in high demand and could be offered at more competitive prices by leveraging new technology. Supported product design within the Surgical Development team. Provided expertise in optical metrology, mechanical and optical design of test equipment, and automation of manufacturing equipment. Projects included developing an automated manufacturing process around several high accuracy optical metrology instruments.

Major project was to integrate optical metrology instruments and custom vision inspection stations into a fully automated workcell, for the purpose of inspecting finished product. My team was responsible for the entire system design including control hardware, optical metrology integration, product handling, machine vision system design, PLC-operator interface, and large scale data collection. Some challenges of this workcell were, creating the automation to meet the statistical performance of the current manual inspection, maintaining the mechanical accuracy and repeatability required by the optical systems, complying with good manufacturing process, clean room standards, and operator ergonomics.

Worked as part of a multidisciplinary team with the goal of implementing an innovative optical technology into a new brand of multifocal contact lenses. My primary focus (pun intended) was to lead the opto-mechanical testing and metrology in support of the new product. I developed several lab bench research tools for R&D, then scaled these tools to a high speed automated manufacturing setting. I also served as a mechanical/materials consultant in support of the New Lens Design team in R&D. The New Lens Design Team included co-workers in R&D Optics, Chemistry, Clinical Testing, and Marketing. I created/improved testing, analysis, and design procedures, analyzed and interpreted data using a Six-Sigma approach.

RIT Student Government Club

Worked in the Failure Analysis division of Vicor. Became familiar with the failure analysis procedure while using technical problem solving skills. Used equipment such as microscopes, abrasion wheels, X-Ray, diamond saw, & acid de-cap to detect and identify failure. Prepared report documents in a technical writing format.

Worked individually on several projects within the Development division of Softrek. Wrote software packages in JAVA and PLSQL. Became familiar with XML and ORACLE databases.
