About Justin Ramey

I am currently finishing up my Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University concentrating in the areas of measurement, systems, and controls. I am passionate about robotics, autonomy, and control theory, looking to apply my skills and knowledge to a R&D role where I can use my knowledge of advanced control concepts to improve upon complex system performance.During my time at Purdue as an undergraduate, I completed 5 terms of co-op working for SABIC Innovative Plastics in various roles: process engineer, maintenance engineer, reliability engineer, and operations engineer. I had the opportunity to lead many projects during my 5 co-op terms, several resulted in outcomes that saved the company millions of dollars yearly on production losses or planned maintenance expenses through my use of data analysis, engineering fundamentals, and sometimes very basic intuition applied to overlooked issues.I've worked on many projects at Purdue ranging from prosthetic fingers to automated Nespresso pod repackaging machines, applying my skills in 3D modeling, control theory, mechatronics, and project management to achieve desirable outcomes: 2nd place best engineering design project Spring 2024, 3rd place best "Bee" bot for my graduate mechatronics class.I thrive in environments where the answer is not easy to find and roadblocks stop others in their tracks. Every new obstacle is an experience to learn from and a chance to apply a new tool that I can add to my list of skills. I am a firm believer that anything is possible to overcome through the hard work of a dedicated team. While I am mainly focused on pursuing jobs in R&D for robotics, autonomy, and controls I am open to other roles in manufacturing or consulting. Whatever environment I do end up in is a new opportunity to learn and grow professionally and personally and I am excited to start that journey after my graduation in Spring of 2025!

Undergraduate Teaching Assistant

West Lafayette, In, Us

Worked as head undergraduate TA (UTA) for the Systems and Controls Engineering class (ME 365) at Purdue University for the Fall 2022 semester. As the head UTA, I collaborated with the course coordinator and head graduate TA to create grading rubrics and assign grading responsibilities to the other UTAs.I helped lead two labs every other week. These labs focused on teaching students how to calibrate both static and dynamic systems, perform system identification, noise reduction, and simple introduction into controller design. I assisted students in learning and implementing VI's within LabVIEW in order to control wind tunnels and servo-tables.Through this experience, I learned how to lead a team through my coordination with the other UTA's. I also learned how to help others learn. My students were never given the answer, instead I asked other questions and helped lead them to arrive to an answer on their own. To me, this is the best way to learn and will provide them the necessary skills to answer tough questions in their professional careers.
