Postdoctoral/Scientist I Research at Southern ResearchI was an immunologist in the Oncology Department of the Drug Discovery Program in the lab of Dr. Rebecca J Boohaker. Research included development of small molecule inhibitors for cancer therapy (brain, colon, pancreatic, and breast) and designing/executing immunological assays for clients. Graduate ResearchI was part of Dr. Daniel C Bullard's laboratory. Our research focused on the role of the β2 integrin Mac-1 (CD11b/CD18) and how this integrin alters immune and inflammatory processes. We focused on the Itgam SNP rs1143679 (R77H) which has been found to be statistically associated with lupus through GWA studies. Research projects I have worked on have involved both human cell culture as well as murine models. Specialties: Chromatography, Flow Cytometry, Animal Husbandry, in vivo Murine Models, Data Processing, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)Intern at Centocor in the Biologics Toxicology divisionSummer 2009Performed ion exchange chromatography to extract fetal hemoglobin from humanized sickle cell mice and determine its percentage through chromatographic means. PMID: 23157711 (middle author)Summer 2010Employed hierarchical cluster analysis to analyze cytokine storm data, flow cytometry to characterize various B-cell lymphoma lines, and designed an ADCC assay.PMID: 21689786 (Acknowledgement)Ursinus CollegeUndergraduate TAAssisted in both the general and organic chemistry laboratories. Helped to run labs and aid students when needed.Undergraduate ResearchIn collaboration with Dr. Kelly Mowery, we attempted to develop an assay to detect fucoidan concentration in solution.
