For my master's thesis (MA Data-driven Design) I researched how an Interactive Machine Learning system can support Duty Officers (Officieren van Dienst) of the fire brigade in finding the right information to gain Situational Awareness during emergency response. I was hereby focussing on filtering the available 'kladbloknotities' (notes made by Control Room Operators) of an incident on topic by using Topic Modelling.Two hi-fi prototypes were designed and tested: the first prototype supports Duty Officers in finding information of an incident by enabling them to narrow down the present notes on topic. An Interactive Machine Learning system is then designed as a second prototype that enables Duty Officers to train the topic model that is used to narrow down the present notes.My results will be used by the Multi Intelligence Center (MIC) of Veiligheidsregio Rotterdam-Rijnmond to develop the Interactive Machine Learning system that I designed, so that it can be used by Duty Officers in real-life.Guidelines on Situational Awareness, Human error, and Interactive Machine Learning were implemented. A side job alongside my studies. As a Content Creator I created and posted messages on LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram on the @cmd_denhaag and account on behalf of the Communication & Multimedia Design bachelor programme of The Hague University of Applied Sciences. I created these posts in Illustrator, Premiere Rush and Monday. I did this every week together with fellow students. Due to my contribution, the account grew from 70 to 250 followers in 2.5 years on Instagram.

During my graduation internship I was involved in optimizing the digital onboarding process of the NEXTdriver service. This is an app that enables truck drivers and delivery drivers to optimize their driving behaviour.I conducted user research to find out drivers' user needs on their expectations when being informed about the NextDriver service. With use of the insights of my iterative research-phase, I conducted an iterative concept-, design- and testing-phase. With use of these phases, a hi-fi prototype was delivered. This hi-fi prototype will be implemented by NEXTdriver and can be used immediately by drivers.

I assisted colleagues with the concept creation for the redesign of the new Vorsen (now TimeEdit) website, so that it could engage visitors in a playful and approachable way. Moreover, I advised colleagues in making the right choices regarding usability during the development of various deliverables. I also designed multiple visuals.

During my internship at 42, I was involved in the development of a digital study guide. A digital study guide is a website where students can find information about the education offered by their university.I worked closely with an HBO-ICT intern who fulfilled the role of a Full-Stack Developer. Our collaboration was important to determine the technical requirements of the study guide to be developed, and to keep each other on their toes. Regular consultations also allowed me to deliver the products my colleague needed while working.I conducted an iterative research-, concept-, design- and testing-phase. With use of these phases, I delivered a hi-fi prototype of the digital study guide.2022 update: the study guide is currently being implemented at various universities and is in use by Wageningen University & Research.
