sparqs (student partnerships in quality Scotland) is an agency which puts university and college students at the heart of decisions affecting the quality and governance of their learning experience. Funded by the SFC, we work with management, governors and students' associations to promote an environment in which students can make a positive and rewarding difference to their educational experience. As a development consultant for this organisation, I manage projects, lead change, offer advice and support development throughout the universities and colleges of Scotland.

I devised and implemented quality improvement measures to develop outstanding performance. I used data to lead curriculum managers in monitoring and improving opportunities for students. I monitored and reported on the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, CPD for teachers, awarding body liaison, and systems for the monitoring of academic quality and standards.

A one-year consultancy position, supporting the headteacher and senior leadership team in the development of this Academy High School and in raising student academic achievement.

MSc Project:An independent review of a North-South partnership linking a community in the UK with a community in The Gambia. Including field work in both countries, and reporting through face-to-face meetings, community discussion, and written reports.

Headteacher. International Baccalaureate (IB) school of 820 students aged 3-18. Staff and families mainly of Chilean origin. 130 staff including 80 teachers.Principal achievements:• Raised the profile of the IB and delivered 100% IB Diploma pass rate.• Improved the admissions process, filling pre-kinder on admissions day for the first time.• Elected as Regional Officer and Treasurer of the Latin American Heads Conference (LAHC).• Led the school through the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake in central Chile.• Appointed and mentored two new members of our SLT.• Introduced a strategic school development planning process.• Developed through consultation and introduced an improved staff appraisal system.• Worked successfully in a bilingual environment of English and Spanish.

Provided both management and educational advice, in matters related to educational quality assurance and to school leadership and management. Coordinated the writing of school management guidance for heads and regional monitoring instruments. Advised and trained national and regional directors, including the Permanent Secretary. Worked with a range of stakeholders and donors, including DfID (UK) and World Bank representatives.Two year placement arranged through Voluntary Service Overseas, VSO.

Together with the head, SLT and governors, I led this school on a journey of improvement to become one of the strongest-performing schools in the county.Responsible for timetable, curriculum, scheduling, facilities development, and recruitment. Also involved in budget preparation, staff and governor training, and performance management.Wrote and presented courses on: interpreting academic data, professional self-review, target-setting, timetabling, raising standards at A Level, and government initiatives.
