SickleGenAfrica is a five year collaborative research project involving doctors, scientist and community activists from eight institutions in Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa and Pittsburgh with a vision to improve the survival of sickle cell disease patients in Africa. The overarching objective of our research project is to understand how our genes fight against byproducts of sickle cell destruction to prevent potential damage to major organs in people who have sickle cell disease.My role as the PM is to plan, budget, oversee and document all aspects of the network managing day-to-day activities working closely with the Director (also the PI) to make sure the scope and the direction of SGA are on schedule.

MCare Africa is a Start Up Project designed to function as a community of African mothers, Pregnant women, carers of children and healthcare professionals in the area of maternal and child health. The core objective of the project is empowering women on maternal and child health related issues through information sharing to help contribute to a reduction in maternal and child mortalities. My role on this project include:  Supporting the founder to plan the structure of a virtual school Identify thematic areas/concepts for content development Provide technical advice on team formation for content development.  Write stories for blogging on mCare site Develop handbooks Develop proposals Source grants opportunities

My responsibilities include:▪ Providing oversight, functional and technical leadership in project management practices and process for the implementation of health workers specialist education ▪ Responsible for the execution of project activities in Ghana as part of project work plan inclusive monitoring and evaluation and strategic planning▪ Overseeing financial management in Ghana▪ Leading meetings with senior leaders and key stakeholder both in Ghana and Canada to ensure accurate and timely tracking against project milestones, quality indicators and financial metrics ▪ Producing consolidated reports to project team and relevant committees▪ Liaise with Paediatric Nursing Education Partnership teaching sites in Ghana and collaborate with clinical coordinators

I facilitated health care quality improvement efforts in 20 hospitals and 45 sub-districts in the Western Region of Ghana. My key responsibilities and activities include: ▪ Providing direct technical leadership and assistance in building capacity in the application of Quality Improvement methods▪ Mentoring and coaching teams to assess the impact of quality improvement efforts through data collection, analysis and interpretation of results. ▪ Providing technical oversight for all activities relating to the achievement of the project aim. For example generating work plans, raising budgets for implementation and reporting appropriately with supporting documents▪ Leading in the development of capacity building agendas and participating in the facilitation of learning sessions▪ Developing and fostering relationships with key stakeholders including Regional and District Health Management teams, and partnering NGOs in the Maternal and Child Health sector and proactively manage these relationships▪ Generating technical reports on progress of implementation and disseminating results through internal and external publications and conferences ▪ Conducting monthly quality improvement (QI) supportive visits to hospitals and sub-district QI teams▪ Writing regional progress updates reports and or sharing updates through PowerPoint presentations at technical meetings

I coordinated from beginning to end the entire Stage 1 Component B of the “Artimisinin Based Combination Therapy (ACT)” project aimed at exploring the delivery system determinants of effective Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) Kit based ACT. The research was a National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded collaborative between Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC) and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). My key activities were to:▪ Conducting hospital and health centre based sensitization; project monitoring, training and supervision of fieldworkers and field supervisors; coordinating of field activities; in-depth interviews, quality control checks; screening of questionnaires for blanks, completeness, inconsistencies and queried forms sent back to field and assessment of health logistics for diagnosing non-malaria illness in health facilities▪ Participating in proposal development and scientific presentation▪ Organising and facilitate workshops for health personnel▪ Conducting evaluation of refresher courses attended by health personnel involved in child-care

Provided field support on a placebo control trial for the project title “Artesunate Suppository drug trial-pre-referral rectal Artesunate” to prevent death and disability in children between the ages of 1-year with severe malaria. A UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank funded programme for Research Training in Tropical Diseases under the WHO Global Malaria Programme, Sall Family Foundation & UK Malaria Research Council. My job description include:▪ Conducting visits to traditional healers who treated convulsive cases and enroll cases onto the artesunate suppository trial▪ Facilitating referral processes of cases to the nearest health post▪ Conducting anal administration of suppository to convulsive children before referring to the next level▪ Conducting capillary blood sample taking and preparing blood slides (thing and thin)▪ Administering closed ended questionnaires and screening of questionnaires for completeness, inconsistencies, accuracy and appropriateness before submission for data entry
