I conducted economic research to underpin QNB's expanding operations across the MENA region. I helped establish an international research function for the bank and developed its Economic Insight reports and forecasting models. I wrote regular columns in Qatari newspapers on regional and global economic trends.

I conducted bespoke research on issues ranging from Brazil-MENA trade to microfinance. I briefed diplomats and executives and spoke at conferences on issues ranging from the impact of the 2008 financial crisis to women's economic opportunity.

My work included the report “Conflict, Economic Closure and Human Security in Gaza” for the Oxford Research Group; analysis on Iraq for the Economist Intelligence Unit; research on development policies for Christian Aid and advice for Avaaz.org on advocacy related to Iraq.I also advised private donors on grantmaking, including for an educational project to facilitate the return of refugees to southern Sudan and the establishment of a women’s employment training centre in Kosovo (and had the privilege of visiting war widows supported by the project). I also conducted research on grantmaking to charities working on climate change.

I was part of a team supporting the Iraqi Constitutional Drafting Committee with information on international best practices in areas such as hydrocarbon sector management, fiscal federalism and human rights. I helped the Committee develop a programme of public education and consultation with Iraqi civil society groups (although it was unfortuantely limited by the foreshortened timescale of the constitutional process and by the security situation). I also worked on issues of national reconciliation, including a study tour of South Africa for Iraqi Parliamentarians, meeting with people such as President Mbeki and Archbishop Tutu.

NPC was established to adapt the techniques of equity analysis to the non-profit sector, aiming to maximize social outcomes based on detailed quantitative research. I wrote guidebooks for grantmakers including on HIV/AIDS in South Africa and in Burundi, Rwanda & DR Congo, based on research trips to these countries. I also advised on grantmaking in Iraq and Sudan.
