Shield Engineering, Inc. was acquired by CDG, Inc. headquartered in Andalusia, Alabama in July 2022. After working with Shield Engineering for the past 13 years, I am excited to see what capabilities and potential the merge of these two companies brings.

Mr. Goss was promoted to senior project engineer at Shield after becoming a registered professional engineer in the State of Tennessee. Mr. Goss has since been overseeing and training field technicians for materials testing and special inspections for projects in the surrounding Knoxville area. Mr. Goss also oversees the soils and concrete laboratory testing in Shield's AMRL accredited laboratory by training personnel and maintaining accreditation status.Mr. Goss also oversees and performs geotechnical explorations and forensic studies for projects ranging from residential to large commercial buildings and developments.

While at Shield, Mr. Goss performed geotechnical studies and Construction Materials Testing and IBC Special Inspections from small residential to large commercial projects. During this time Shield was one of the primary geotechnical consultants for multiple DOE projects within the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) that were partially funded by the government stimulus program. Mr. Goss gained experience overseeing geotechnical drilling and report preparation for numerous proposed buildings in the prelimenary design phase, as well as performed materials testing and special inspections during the construction phase for those projects at ORNL.Mr. Goss was also the field manager for Shield's oversight services for the final SWSA landfill closures on the ORNL campus. Mr. Goss oversaw field technicians documenting the landfill closures and scheduled personnel for day to day activities.

ECS Limited hired Mr. Goss as a geotechnical field engineer. Mr. Goss setup geotechncial subsurface explorations and prepared geotechnical reports as well as aided in the soil laboratory performing basic soil laboratory test. Due to the economic downturn of 2008 and construction slow down, ECS began downsizing its staff bringing an end to Mr. Goss' short time with ECS.

While at Bunnell-Lammons Engineering, Mr. Goss performed CQA/CQC testing and monitoring of multiple landfill's across the southeast. Field testing and monitoring consisted of low perm clay liners, geosynthetic clay liners and geomembrane installation, as well as protective cover placement. Mr. Goss was also involved with multiple geotechnical landfill feasibility and borrow studies for various landfill's performing field work and report preparation. Other specialty testing included seismic refraction to determine bedrock profiles within proposed landfill cells.Mr. Goss also performed geotechnical explorations for residential to small industrial/commercial projects. Mr. Goss also monitored deep foundation installations at the Biltmore Town Park Square development in Asheville, North Carolina.
