Director, TechnologyMount Royal University Aug 2019 - PresentCalgary, Ab, CaIn this leadership role, I act as a member of the University’s Leadership Group and Dean’s Advisory Group where I am an active participant strategizing with colleagues to best move forward. Responsible for the Library's planning, selection, adoption, integration and development of future technologies, systems, applications, and digital infrastructure. I build relationships with stakeholders at all levels which have allowed me to plan and implement technology solutions. In my current position I work collaboratively with a range of people and positions to assess business practices, build business cases for technology projects, identify opportunities and execute plans that support MRU’s business operations and strategic initiatives. Currently, I am implementing a technology update to the Riddell Library and Learning Centre, with a substantial budget of nearly 2 million dollars. This project was undertaken with the primary goal of decreasing organizational risk while significantly enhancing user experience and reliability of our technology. Accomplishing this initiative has required proposing budgets, meticulous coordination and critical collaboration with stakeholders from various departments, vendors and industry stakeholders. In this role I am a strong stakeholder advocate and I act as ‘voice of the customer.’ -
Manager, Digital Projects & Web DevelopmentUniversity Of Calgary Jun 2016 - Jul 2019Calgary, Alberta, CaPromoted to lead members from 3 siloed development teams to form the Library Systems Development Team (DevOps) while building up expertise within the team, creating redundancy and increased efficiencies.-Tasked with searching for and implementing an asset management system. After an extensive vendor search, I saw the opportunity of acquiring an integrated system with help desk. I presented the benefits of replacing our existing help desk with one integrated with an asset management system. This presented solution is now implemented and tracks thousands of LCR assets and hundreds of tickets a week. It is administered by nearly 60 staff members. This new integrated system’s annual cost is less than the previous stand alone help desk system and offers far more functionality.-After a comprehensive vendor search, I implemented a digital signage CMS to power nearly 150 displays in the Taylor Family Digital Library which is used by over 10,000 students a day. I designed and programmed interface for users to interact with screens to get content that they need. Presented at international academic library conference at North Carolina State University about student engagement with digital signage. I sat on the advisory board of this tech company where I help shape the product for The University of Calgary and other customers.-Restructured LCR web presence where I consolidated thousands of pages and dozens of websites. Created use cases, personas and journey maps in preparation for new responsive Library website on one of the University’s highest trafficked websites. In the first 18 months after launch, we saw increased traffic to key priorities, including a 800% increase for an area that was identified to be a priority.-Created a regular code release schedule that allows us to release updates quickly with QA testing. Releases are documented in tracking system and updates are given at daily stand-up meetings. -
