I built several apps at Science Mobile which was spun out into Mammoth Media. The most notable was the interactive storytelling app, Yarn, which had over 20 million downloads in the first month after launch.

Flutter was a dating app inspired by real life. By sharing silent, 10-second videos with people nearby, Flutter recreated the magic of meeting someone in real-life on your phone. I designed Flutter and built the app. We were in the Winter 2015 batch of the Launch Incubator and won Best Design at the 2016 Launch Festival.

Swim was the greatest messaging app you never used. Swim had a lot of interesting features, like geo and time based conversations, SoundCloud integration so you could listen while chatting, and more, but the two core ideas behind Swim were:1. Conversations were social. Participants could add contacts to a conversation in progress by mentioning them, even if they didn’t already have Swim installed.2. Less notifications made people more engaged. You got a badge count when someone spoke in a conversation, but only received a push notification when you were specifically mentioned.

I led the process of integrating Geni's backend services with MyHeritage and sharing technology within the combined company. This process involved traveling to Tel Aviv and working closely with engineering teams at both companies.

I oversaw the technical direction of our engineering team at Geni as we transitioned our backend to services. I led the Clojure team that developed our backend graph database, revision and search services, and I helped design our crowd-sourced translation service which allowed us to translate Geni into over 100 languages.

I helped architect the backend for Geni, a collaborative genealogy and family social networking site. This involved everything from database schema design to graph algorithms to improving performance and scalability. I was also very involved with product design and played a significant role in many features, including tree merging, which allowed our users to create the World Family Tree of more 100 million people.

I helped design the initial Yammer backend server architecture. I built the caching system and database query system that helped Yammer scale quickly during their rapid initial growth.

As a member of the search team, I helped re-architect the data-processing pipeline for Shopzilla's product search engine. I also worked on adaptive algorithms for improving the quality of search results based on past user behavior.
