UASI Planner for the Regional Disaster Preparedness Organization (RDPO). I was the lead planner/facilitator of the annual update of the Portland Urban Area's Threat Hazard Identification Risk Assessment (THIRA). This project was terminated by RDPO leadership due to the region's disqualification from the FY2013 UASI Program.

Las Vegas, Nevada Area

Assisted with local and regional hospital preparedness efforts by improving community readiness and at 36Las Vegas acute care and sub-acute care facilities. Helped hospitals advance their regional medical surge capabilities in the event of a bioterrorism, health, or community disaster. Interpreted federal and state laws, regulations, requirements, and restrictions related to medical surge and emergency management developed and implemented operational guidelines and directives. Ensured compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and statutes. Conducted emergency management trainings and assisted with hospital emergency management program evaluations.

Responsible for a wide range of projects including the development of the 2009 Hazard Vulnerability Analysis and Hazard Mitigation Action Plan. Helped administer the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Created a resource book for the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and processed resource requests during McKinney's EOC activation for both Hurricanes Gustav and Ike.

I served on the Hospital’s Emergency Management Committee and developed hospital preparedness plans and training. In cooperation with the City of Denton’s OEM, I participated in two full-scale disaster exercises. During the 2008 full-scale exercise, I served as an exercise evaluator, created EEG’s for hospital operations, and introduced HSEEP as an exercise paradigm to the facility. As a member of the ER Unit Practice Counsel, I was responsible for developing workable solutions for ER process problems and new ER policies and procedures. I teamed with the ER director to create educational competencies for new hires.Daily tasks included: providing direct patient care under the supervision of the primary nursing staff, wound care, orthopedic splinting application, obtaining and interpreting vital signs, placing patients on continuous monitoring equipment, ECG interpretation, implementation of advanced triage protocols, and assisting physicians with critical procedures. I provided critical care support including: CPR, venipuncture, Foley catheter care and insertion, basic airway management, management of clinical equipment, and maintenance of sterile supplies.

I coordinated all diagnostic procedures and admissions for a level-one trauma center. Daily responsibilities included: processing and interpreting physician orders, paging appropriate staff for physicians, ordering medications from the pharmacy, and answering the ER phone. I worked with ER leadership to develop specific emergency room order entry sets. In addition, I helped provide comfort measures/emergency medical care to Hurricane Katrina evacuees sheltered at Reunion Arena in Dallas, TX.
