As an Associate Principal at STUDIOS, Justin was responsible for maintaining and growing client relationships, identifying and winning project pursuits, and managing project teams. As Chair of the Sustainability Advisory Council, Justin was also responsible for defining the firm's approach to sustainability and guiding the initiatives to develop decarbonization workflows for projects, and also firm operations.

Justin's work experience at STUDIOS has primarily been on large scale international commercial & institutional project types with particular experience in multi-phased development in both core and shell and Tenant Improvement. He is experienced in all phases of design and permitting across each of these project types. Justin co-founded STUDIOS Architecture's internal sustainability committee, which focuses on globally integrating environmentally sustainable standard practices into the firms projects and internal operations. He regularly manages the LEED Certification process, and assists in integrating new design technology into the practice.

Justin was briefly contracted to EHDD to assist with the Design Development of the Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive. His main role was the translation between the Revit model and a Rhino model from Japanese Architect Toyo Ito's office in Tokyo. Given the unusually complex conceptual design, this was fundamental in moving from concept to a buildable solution. This project was never realized due to a combination of the global economic downturn, and unknown costs related to innovative construction techniques.

Justin worked with an intimate team to provide design services to clients ranging from small residential to urban planning scale projects. The ideas outlined in Christopher Alexander's research on Pattern Language in the act of place-making, and more specifically those rendered in the Nature of Order Series serve as the basis of the design process for each of these projects. This consists of research, many stages of full scale spatial mock-ups, and iterations of material and color selection that go beyond the typical scope of contemporary accepted practice and result in the creation of more successful, life-giving places.Justin conducted his thesis at Drury University around the broader societal implications that result from the adoption of the espoused processes of thinking about design and building outlined in the Nature of Order series.

While at MBH Justin worked mostly in the Retail Studio where he gained skills in space planning, detailing, construction set organization, and permitting procedures which served as a foundation for moving into more responsible roles.Justin was also involved in space planning exercises for the San Francisco Planning + Urban Research Association's Annual Silver Spur awards luncheon in 2005.

Justin worked as a Designer and Builder on a multi-use renovation of a 3 Story Historic brick building on the City Square in Springfield, Missouri. A restaurant and bar was built into the first floor while the upper floors were renovated to contain 4 custom loft apartments. This real-life experience within a design-build process played a formative role in his professional development. He gained a sincere appreciation for the ability to turn an idea into a real workable solution on the fly in the field, as well as how seeming problems in the field, can create added opportunities for creative responses sometimes only available when addressed in real time. *This project was featured as the Residence of Aaron Beurge on the inaugural series of ABC's "The Bachelor" in 2001.
