About Justin Dinger

Throughout my entire life one common thread has weaved throughout, a passion for puzzles. My brain is always working to put the pieces together. Whether it is figuring out why a tool which operated perfectly in qualification no longer works at the customer site or determining the most efficient process flow for assembly procedures, I am always working to figure out the puzzle. Engineering problems are often jigsaw in nature, broken into a million unrecognizable bits and only through determination and patience does the full picture become clear. That is what makes me a successful engineer, I thrive in breaking up the challenges into small moveable parts and putting them into their correct and logical place. While engineering can often be putting in long hours staring at a screen in the ol’ trusty dusty computer chair, I have found the best way to get a full picture is to get your hands dirty. I have done this in numerous ways in my career and all in the pursuit of a job well done. Does the job require scouring the markets of Changzhou, China for cable shielding to troubleshoot induced noise in your sensitive measurement equipment? Does it require submitting design changes across the world in your hotel room in Manila while a typhoon blusters outside? The answer for me was yes and sometimes the puzzle comes with extra pieces that require some blunt force to install, not every job is a masterpiece. It is often the moments when nothing is going to plan that lessons are learned and my passion for continuous improvement is sparked. Which is a nice segue into my life motto, “if something can be easy it should be easy”. Which is not to say that if something is not easy it shouldn’t be done, quite the opposite. Continuous improvement of processes to increase overall efficiency and throughput leaves more time and energy for the engineering challenges which are just hard. An example of that in my career is streamlining supplier quality standards and procedures to leave more time troubleshooting equipment malfunctions across the world with incomplete data and an impatient customer.

Listed skills include Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Engineering, Solidworks, and 26 others.

A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.

Applications Engineer

Boulder, Co

I am responsible for all mechanical design work, highlights of which are the complete redesign and modernization of nearly the entire Sinton Instruments product line and the realization of over 30 custom projects.I implemented a ground up supplier quality tracking procedure and data analysis which monitored, tracked and graded over 6,000 parts in its first year of implementation. This required measuring critical dimensions of incoming parts and providing feedback to vendors wherever necessary.I am also responsible for tool shipments, which could be as simple as shipping and qualifying standard measurement equipment to more complicated projects with custom requirements, FAT, SAT and installation trips. These trips often included solving unique technical challenges as the sole boots-on-the-ground engineer all while navigating language barriers and the local cuisine.

Product Quality Engineering Intern

Fort Collins, Colorado Area

Validated products incorporating numerous testing standards such as MIL-STD-810G, ISO and ASTM standards as well as company specific testing procedures. Worked closely with the Product Development and Tooling teams during the entire accelerated product life cycle. Performed first article inspections in accordance with OtterBox engineering specifications. Worked in a cross functional environment to address challenging design and quality control issues.
