Research AssociateMines Paristech - Ecole Des Mines De Paris Dec 2012 - Jun 2013Paris Area, FranceI worked on the multiscale modelling and simulation of the nonlinear dynamic behaviour (Payne effect) of nano-reinforced elastomers. Keywords: viscoelasticity, nonlinear mechanics, FEA, computational homogenisation, rubber, elastomers, nanoparticles. -
Phd CandidateEcole Des Mines De Paris Oct 2009 - Dec 2012Paris Area, FranceMy PhD work was mainly focused on the development of modelling, homogenisation and simulation tools for studying architectured materials. We applied those to two types of architectured materials: periodic auxetic (with negative Poisson's ratio) lattices, and stochastic fibrous media. For the case of auxetics, an in-depth computational study was performed from the early design of microstructures up to the simulation of structural applications. For the random case, my work was dedicated to the definition of a representative volume element size for a specific kind of model of random structures (based on a Poisson linear variety), i.e. a biphasic random medium with infinite correlation length, infinite contrast of properties between percolating phases, and a non-periodizable morphology. Basically, every micromechanicians' nightmare. Only advanced computational materials science tools can handle such complex problems. My thesis is available here: http://pastel.archives-ouvertes.fr/pastel-00797363/en/ -
Research EngineerSchlumberger Feb 2009 - Jul 2009Paris Area, FranceMy work was focused on the durability of cement in the context of CO2 sequestration. I made use of several characterisation techniques in order to account for the carbonated and neat phases in cementitious samples; for instance, I had the chance to use an Electron Probe Micro-Analyser (EPMA), or Castaing's probe, to characterise the chemical composition of samples at the micro-scale. Also, more common techniques were used: TGA, SEM, XRD, etc. A set of mechanical testing was done externally (nano-indentation at MIT, and micro-scratch at Epslog S.A.), and part of my job was to put these results in perspective with the chemistry measurements in order to model the kinetics of carbonation. The main aim of this study was to assess the questions of durability and safety in depleted cement wells susceptible to be used for carbon dioxide sequestration. -
Research EngineerEpfl Apr 2008 - Aug 2008Lausanne Area, SwitzerlandInternship in the research field of cement at the Laboratory of Construction Materials. My work was focused on the particle size distribution of cement grains and its effect on cement hydration and mechanical properties at early age (<48 hours). Several methods were involved for studying hydration and elastic properties: SEM, XRD, calorimetry, Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity method, fracture mechanics, FEM. The data collected during this internship was then put into perspective with modelling and simulation results obtained from µic, a microstructural modelling software developed at LMC by Dr. Bishnoi (http://lmc.epfl.ch). -
